Camp Pokonokah Hills

about: history

Are you looking for a leadership opportunity in a supportive and expressive environment? Then spend the summer doing something awesome!

What could be better than taking on adventure, exploring the outdoors, making new friends and being an empowering role model and mentor to girls and young women?

Camp Pokonokah Hills Programming Design

At Pokonokah Hills we provide camping opportunities for girls and young women in grades 1-12. Sessions vary from 3 to 7 nights, depending on program and age.

Programming combines two focuses - outdoor education/skills and girl empowerment - each session incorporates programming based on both focuses. For example, outdoor education/skills include activities such as canoeing, swimming, campfires, horse-back riding, knot-tying, archery, etc. Girl empowerment programming is incorporated into activities based on overall Girl Scout programming concepts such as self-esteem, body image, leadership and healthy living.

What is unique about Pokonokah Hills is that although we offer themed programming, the majority of programs and activities are girl-planned based on girl interest. This means that in any given session there will be a wide range of activities offered by the program staff based on the interests of young women from that session. Young women interested in environmental awareness may be interested in discovering their own style through creating T-shirt art, purse-making or furniture design.

As staff and mentors we help to guide our girls and young women with planning and implementing programming of their choice, while honoring traditional camp programming as well.
