On Your Own
For Daisy Girl Scouts
On Your Own for Daisy Girl Scouts is a special adaptation of the council's On Your Own patch. The requirements to earn this patch are designed to teach Daisy Girl Scouts basic emergency procedures and responsibilities. Sybaquay Council does not advocate leaving Daisy Girl Scouts "on their own," but we do feel that they should be prepared to act "on their own" should an emergency where they, or the adult with them, needs help.
On Your Own patches for Daisy Girl Scouts are available for purchase at the Council Shop.
To earn a patch, Daisy Girl Scouts must complete the following requirements:
1. Discuss with your troop what first aid is and review simple first aid procedures for small cuts, minor burns, and choking. Also show the girls the contents of the troop's first aid kit and discuss what each item is used for.
2. Draw a floor plan of your house or apartment (all floors) showing escape routes in case of fire. Practice the routes to the outside through doorways with brothers and sisters and with friends who play with you. Discuss with your family where to meet away from your house if a fire should occur.
3. Discuss with your troop what to do if you are approached by a stranger outdoors.
4. Make a list of important phone numbers and post it by the phone in your home. If you have more than one phone, make a list to be posted near each phone. Include the police emergency and non-emergency numbers, the poison control center, fire department, parents' work numbers, close neighbors, doctors, and any other numbers you think are important. Practice making emergency phone calls to get help for someone injured, to report a fire, etc.
5. Discuss with an adult how to make four simple snacks and try making them. Afterwards, share your recipes or ideas with your troop.
